C.R.A.C.

This Club was founded in the 1940's, under the name "The West Cornwall Radio Club". In
the late 1950's the name was changed to "The Cornish Radio and Television Club"; this
was subsequently changed to the present name.

Although there were Rallies and Exhibitions held before 1964, since that year the Club
has organised an unbroken series of Rallies, mainly in Newquay and Truro. The venue
from 1990 onwards has been Penair School, Truro. This will again be the venue in 2008.
The annual Rally is always held in July, but in 2005 changed from a Saturday to a
Sunday.

Membership of the Club is open to anyone with an interest in electronics and/or
communication by "wireless". There is also a Computer Section.

Instructional courses for taking the examinations necessary in order to become a
licensed radio amateur are available.

Club meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month. The current venue for
meetings is the Perranarworthal Church Hall, commencing at 1930. In November the
activity includes a bring and buy sale. The meeting format is a discussion of Club
business, followed by a break for refreshments. The latter is followed by an
interesting talk, (unless a speaker is not available). The December meeting is a
Christmas party; this includes the Computer Section.

The Computer Section meetings are held at the same venue and time, on the second Monday
of each month, with the exception of December. You can attend these meetings without
having to attend the main meetings (and vice versa), but you do need to be a Club
member. The format of these meetings is the same as mentioned above.

For some years the Club has commemorated the birth and achievements of Guglielmo Marconi
with a 24 hour event held on the nearest Saturday to his actual date of birth. For
further details of this event and the possible awards please go to
http://www.gb4imd.org.uk

The Club also runs stations at local events, such as the St. Agnes Steam Engine Rally
and the Redruth and District Model Flying Club's annual display for the public.

Further details regarding the Club, and Amateur Radio generally, can be obtained from
the P.R.O. Ian, on 01872-56105

The Club also runs "The Cornish Award", for details please go to Page 3.
